Richie Ryan

Richie Ryan (b. 1929) was a senior Irish politician. He was first elected to Dil ireann in 1961 as a Fine Gael TD for Dublin South West. In opposition Ryan served as Fine Gael Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs until 1973, before becoming Minister for Finance, an area where he had little experience. He presided over a tough four years in the National Coalition under Liam Cosgrave, during which time Ireland's foreign debt increased and the economy steadily worsened. Ryan was appointed to the European Parliament on two occasions, 1973 and 1977, and was directly elected to that parliament in 1979 and 1984. He retained his Dil seat until his retirement from domestic politics in 1982. Ryan, Richie Ryan, Richie Ryan, Richie Ryan, Richie
