Richfield, Ohio

Richfield is a village located in Summit County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,286. Several of John Brown's children are buried here. They died due to a smallpox epidemic when he was living in the area. From 1974 to 1994, Richfield was also the home to the Cleveland Area Coliseum. The Coliseum was home to the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA), Cleveland Barons (AHL), Cleveland Crusaders (WHA) and Cleveland Force (MISL). The Coliseum was demolished in 1999.

Geography

Richfield is located at 41°14'1" North, 81°37'56" West (41.233722, -81.632228). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 22.0 km² (8.5 mi²). 22.0 km² (8.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 3,286 people, 1,227 households, and 952 families residing in the village. The population density is 149.4/km² (387.1/mi²). There are 1,272 housing units at an average density of 57.8/km² (149.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.35% White, 0.49% African American, 0.30% Native American, 1.31% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 0.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,227 households out of which 31.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.2% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% are non-families. 19.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 2.99. In the village the population is spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.3 males. The median income for a household in the village is $65,639, and the median income for a family is $70,703. Males have a median income of $51,052 versus $30,431 for females. The per capita income for the village is $32,888. 3.5% of the population and 3.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.6% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
