Rich O'brien

Dr. Richard O'Brien Born 1948, Shebelville, MA The youngest son of Francine and Dirk O'Brien, O'Brien began his studies at Washington University in St. Louis before receiving his medical degree from the University of Chicago. O'Brien gradually began to specialize in research, predominantly in the study of female sexuality. In 1982, O'Brien's paper "The Clitoris and Its Relationship to the Psychology of Adult Females" included startling revelations about the importance of the clitoris in both sexual pleasure and mental health. After its publication, O'Brien became a minor celebrity in the field of reproductive research, and was offered a position at Harvard. During his ten year stay at Harvard, O'Brien was affectionately known as "Professor P***y" by his male students. "A vulgarity, but one to be treasured" is how O'Brien described his unfortunate nickname to the Harvard newspaper. After suffering a shattered arm in a 1992 skiing accident, O'Brien abruptly retired from the academic community. He and his family still reside in the Boston area, where O'Brien continues to study all aspects of female sexuality.
