Resaca, Georgia

Resaca is a city located in Gordon County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 815.

Geography

Resaca is located at 34°34'45" North, 84°56'38" West (34.579116, -84.943989). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²). 7.1 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.47% water.

History

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 815 people, 263 households, and 189 families residing in the city. The population density is 114.0/km² (295.4/mi²). There are 280 housing units at an average density of 39.2/km² (101.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 78.90% White, 2.70% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 15.58% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. 18.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 263 households out of which 37.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.7% are married couples living together, 20.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% are non-families. 23.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.14. In the city the population is spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.6 males. The median income for a household in the city is $30,170, and the median income for a family is $30,938. Males have a median income of $22,321 versus $20,132 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,052. 11.3% of the population and 8.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.4% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
