Republican Revolution

The term can also refer to the 1911 Xinhai Revolution that led to the establishment of the Republic of China.
The Republican Revolution refers to the 1994 take-over of the United States Congress by the Republican Party, following interim elections in the House and Senate. This was associated with an influx of very conservative freshman Republican Representatives under the command of Newt Gingrich, a powerful Speaker of the House. The new Republican legislatative majorities adopted sweeping conservative policies. See also: Contract with America.
