Repton is a small village in Derbyshire between Derby and Burton-upon-Trent. Repton is situated at the edge of the River Trent floodplain. It was once a capital of the kingdom of Mercia, one of the medieval kingdoms within the British Isles. A monastery, the seat of the Mercia bishops, stood there in the 7th century but was later destroyed by the Danes. Remains exist of a priory founded in 1172 and have been incorporated into the buildings of Repton School, a public school established on the grounds of the priory. The centre of the village is dominated by the Church of Saint Wystan, which is notable for its Saxon crypt. External links:
