Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren (born Ralph Lifschitz, October 14, 1939, Bronx, New York) is a world-famous fashion designer. After dropping out of City College of New York, Lauren served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. He also worked as a Brooks Brothers salesman before purchasing the polo label from Brooks in 1967. He opened his own tie business, Polo Fashions, in 1968. He was able to secure a $50,000 loan from a financial backer, and since then Lauren's "fashion empire" has grown to into a $5 billion industry. In 1964, he married Ricky Low-Beer. They have three children—Andrew, David and Dylan. Lauren is also well-known as a collector of classic automobiles. His cars have won best in show at the prestigous Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance multiple times.
