RajkotRajkot (2001 pop. 966,642) is a city of Gujarat state in India. Rajkot is also a district in the state of Gujarat. Rajkot City is the administrative headquarters of this district. This district is surrounded by Kutch (North), Surendranagar, Bhavnager (East), Amreli, Junagadh (South) and Jamnagar (West) districts. Founded in 1610 by Vibhaji Jadeja and Raju Sandhi, it later became the capital of Saurashtra and a headquarters for the British rule. Mahatma Gandhi spent his early years in Rajkot while his father was a Diwan to the Saurashtran Nawab, and the house where Gandhi lived is now a museum named Kaba Gandhi No Delo.
