Raja Casablanca or Rajah (Raja means hope in English) is a sport club with sections in many different sports in Casablanca, Morocco. Raja was created in 1949. A prestigious club drawing its roots in the militancy and enthusiasm of the popular masses of Casablanca and whose first vocation was to answer the legitimate aspirations of an avid youth. In Morocco, Raja Casablanca remains the most popular club, by its rate of multitude and after having been a club considered to make the spectacle without obtaining many titles, the Raja evolved until becoming a professional club, a conqueror and especially an effective one. It becomes thus the engine of Moroccan national football with its long-standing rival Widad Casablanca.

History

All started in 1949 with a theatrical group of artists, baptized "FATH". Prohibition to entrust the presidency to a Morrocan will quickly be circumvented by leaving the armchair, for six months to Benabadji , of Algerian origin and who profited from being of French nationality. It took a long time for the French authorities to accept the accomplished fact. Rajah was lead by a whole core of enthusiastic Morrocans, pure and hard in their nationalist convictions and who were going to be thereafter the brave combatants against the foreign occupier. Many of them werw large trade unionists like Mrs. Mahjoub Ben Seddik , Tibari , Salah Medkouri , Chemseddine , Hmidou Al Watani, Karim Hajjaj, Ahmed Skalli Haddaoui, Choukri, Daoudi, Hachmi Nejjar, Charfaoui, Laachfoubi, Abdelkader Jalal, Naoui , Matre Mati Bouabid and so many other. In 1949, Raja, made up exclusively of Moroccan players, started its first year in "Division d'Honneur" (Last division) and after one euphoric season, it reached the second division. After a course without fault, Raja succeded to join the 1st division in 1951 and since that date the club did not leave any more the elite of Moroccan football. The first trainer of the club was Kacem Kassimi and it is under its crook that the Raja could reach the first division. In 1953, Pre Jgo (Father Jgo) became the man, the technician, the artist and the theorist who was going to give to the club its true seal, which all the generations followed accurately. With him arrived Boujemaa Kadri, a leader, who was going to be characterized by a methodical and colossal work on the administrative and organisational grounds. This duet survived all the obstacles wich faced the club and built the reputation of the Raja in many fields. Through the years, Raja established itself as the crucible (inexhaustible) of Moroccan football, feeding the various national selections with players of great quality.
