Puerto Rican Socialist Party

The Puerto Rican Socialist Party -- or Partido Socialista Puertorriqueo (PSP for its abbreviation in Spanish) -- was a Puerto Rican political party that existed from the 1971 to 1993 and advocated independence and a socialist government for Puerto Rico. The party was founded at the 8th General Assembly of the Pro Independence Movement (Movimiento Pro Independencia or MPI) in November 28, 1971. MPI was founded in January 11, 1959 in Mayagez, Puerto Rico.
