Province Of Ancona

Ancona is a province in the Marche region of central Italy. Its area is 1940 sq km. It consists of 49 communes with a total population of 448,473 (2001, source: Italian institute of statistics Istat, see this link). Ancona Province is a wine growing area, producing red and white wines mainly of the Sangiovese & Montepulciano and Verdicchio grape varieties. The small city of Chiaravalle in Ancona is the birthplace of Maria Montessori.
