Princeton, Wisconsin

Princeton is a city located in Green Lake County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,504. The city is located within the Town of Princeton, though it is politically independent.

Geography

Princeton is located at 43°51'1" North, 89°7'47" West (43.850434, -89.129905). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,504 people, 576 households, and 353 families residing in the city. The population density is 356.3/km² (923.5/mi²). There are 636 housing units at an average density of 150.7/km² (390.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.94% White, 0.47% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.20% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.20% from two or more races. 0.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 576 households out of which 26.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.6% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.7% are non-families. 34.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.97. In the city the population is spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 29.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 79.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $32,679, and the median income for a family is $41,023. Males have a median income of $31,912 versus $21,719 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,047. 12.9% of the population and 5.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.0% of those under the age of 18 and 23.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
