Presidency College, Chennai

Presidency College is an undergraduate college in Chennai, India. It was founded in 1840 by Thiru. Eyre Burton Powell. When the University of Madras was founded in 1857, Presidency Chennai got affiliated to it. The college moved to its present location in Kamaraj Salai in 1870. The Nobel laureates Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman and Dr. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar were alumni of the Presidency college. It was ranked the no. 1 science college in India in 2001 and no. 1 arts college in India in 2002 by India Today.
