Portersville is a borough located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 268.

Geography

Portersville is located at 40°55'31" North, 80°8'39" West (40.925285, -80.144229). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 268 people, 103 households, and 79 families residing in the borough. The population density is 126.2/km² (328.4/mi²). There are 109 housing units at an average density of 51.3/km² (133.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 99.63% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 103 households out of which 36.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% are non-families. 20.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.03. In the borough the population is spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.1 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $37,750, and the median income for a family is $40,536. Males have a median income of $35,625 versus $17,500 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $17,356. 6.4% of the population and 7.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.7% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
