Poor Law Board

The Poor Law Board was established in the United Kingdom in 1834 to administer the Poor Law just passed. It included three commissioners. In 1847 the Board was reconfigured, now being led by a President, and with the Lord President of the Council, the Lord Privy Seal, the Home Secretary and the Chancellor of the Exchequer now added to the board as ex officio members. The board was abolished in 1871 and replaced by the Local Government Board.
