Poestenkill is a town located in Rensselaer County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,054. The Town of Poestenkill is southeast of Troy, New York.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 84.4 km² (32.6 mi²). 84.0 km² (32.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.43% water.

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 4,054 people, 1,527 households, and 1,137 families residing in the town. The population density is 48.2/km² (124.9/mi²).
