Pitchfork MediaPitchfork Media, often referred to simply as Pitchfork, is an internet publication devoted to music criticism, focusing primarily on the world of independent music. Pitchfork was created in Minneapolis in 1995 by Ryan Schreiber, an obsessive music fan who at the time was a recent high-school graduate with no previous writing or publishing experience. Still, influenced by local fanzines and college radio station KUOM, he aimed to provide the then-fledgling internet with its first regularly updated resource for underground music. As Editor-in-Chief, Schreiber has made Pitchfork an extremely successful source for daily music news and album reviews: It now garners upwards of 120,000 visits daily, and more than 1,000,000 unique visitors per month. Pitchfork's fully searchable album review database consists of more than 7,500 reviews, containing in-depth analyses of virtually every major independent release since the site's inception. Other helpful features include the site's Best New Music section, which features a succinct rundown of the staff's favorite recent releases, and a features archive containing countless interviews, think pieces, and lists of the staff's 100 favorite albums for every decade stretching back to the 1970s.
