Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights

Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights is a British sitcom about The Phoenix Club, a working men's club in the northern English town of Bolton. The show is written by Neil Fitzmaurice, Peter Kay and Dave Spikey, produced by Goodnight Vienna Productions and Ovation Entertainments, and broadcast on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom. Two series have been produced, which were first broadcast in 2001 and 2002. The show won the People's Choice Award at the 2002 British Comedy Awards, and was nominated for several other awards. The owner of The Phoenix Club is Brian Potter (played by Peter Kay), who from his wheelchair has presided over two clubs in the past: the first flooded, the second burned down. His ambition is to see The Phoenix Club become the most popular club in Bolton and thus outdo his arch nemesis, Den Perry (Ted Robbins). Perry is the mafia don of Clubland and the owner of rival club The Banana Grove, and he burns down The Phoenix Club at the end of series one. Other characters include:
  • Ray Von (Neil Fitzmaurice) - The over-keen DJ and part time Con-Man.
  • Jerry St. Clair (Dave Spikey) - The licensee (in series two) and resident singer/entertainer (real name - Jerry Dignan). Won the 1992 Talent Trek.
  • Max (Peter Kay) and Paddy (Patrick McGuinness) - The useless doormen who moonlight as incompetent hitmen.
  • Young Kenny (Justin Moorhouse) - The 'handyman'.
  • Alan Johnson (Steve Edge) + Les (Toby Foster) - The backing band, Les Alanos.
  • Kenny Senior (Archie Kelly) - A notorious liar.
  • Holy Mary (Janice Connolly) and Marion (Bea Kelley) - The bar staff and cleaners.
  • Spencer (Daniel Kitson) - The gormless barman, who was only hired because the social security will pay his wages.
  • Dodgy Eric (Bernard Wrigley) - Who delivered a bucking bronco, then a phallic bouncy castle.
