perranporth

Perranporth is a village on the north coast of Cornwall, England, near to Newquay. The village, and its Beach, face the Atlantic, with hundreds of miles of uninterupted fetch producing large waves, making it one of the most popular surfing destinations in Britain. At low tide the beach becomes up to half a mile wide, making it a popular tourist destination in the summer. The town's name is Cornish for St Piran's port. St Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall, and featured on its flag. It is believed he had a chapel near to Perranporth, which is now buried under sand. Perranporth hosts a popular inter-Celtic festival each October, Lowender Peran, drawing people in from all six of the Celtic countries.
