Perfect Blue

Perfect Blue is an feature-length anime film, created by Satoshi Kon. It is a psychological thriller about a member of a Japanese pop idol group called Cham! who leaves her pop idol life to become an actress. Things are going well until Mima finds a website called "Mima's room" that has public diary entries which seem to be written by her discussing her dissatisfaction in the television industry. She confides in her friend/manager Rume about the site who advises her to ignore the creepy similarities the entries have to her life. She tries to forget about it untill the people involved with the drama series she is acting in are suddenly murdered and she finds evidence that leads to herself as the murderer. It turns out that the diarist herself is delusional as she believes herself to be Mima and has made a dissillusioned psycho-fan believe that she is the real Mima and the girl in the show is an imposter. The fan then proceeds to commit the murders and come after Mimarin. Mima kills him and runs to her only support left alive Rume, only to find out that the person she trusted the most is the delusional diarist. She is chased and wounded but manages to seriously wound Rume to the point of incapacitation. They both live, Rume is sent to a mental institution where she lives in constant delusion ,and Mima becomes a famous actress. The film is based upon a book and was originally due to be made into a live action film. However an earthquake in Tokyo, which damaged the studio during pre-production, led to the slash of its budget and, in turn, the film's creation as an animated work.
