Florida state law chapter FOO, approved June 4, 1891, incorporated the Lakeland, Mohawk and Tavares Railroad Company, owned by Ziba King, Grove Cochran and W. S. Walker,

Florida state law chapter 4251, approved May 26, 1893, changed the name to the Peninsular Northern Railroad Company
  • for the purpose of constructing a line of railroad from the city of Lakeland or Bartow in the county of Polk, via the most practicable route to the city of Palatka, in the county of Putnam, or the city of Jacksonville in the county of Duval. Also from said city of Lakeland or Bartow, via the most practicable route to Boca Grande, in the county of Lee, with such extensions and branch roads as the said company may construct.
That act extended the charter until June 10, 1897.
