Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 12,341 km² (4,765 mi²). 12,338 km² (4,764 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The racial makeup of the county is 75.85% White, 4.39% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 16.13% from other races, and 2.69% from two or more races. 61.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 5,153 households out of which 41.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.10% are married couples living together, 11.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.80% are non-families. 19.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.86 and the average family size is 3.29. In the county, the population is spread out with 27.70% under the age of 18, 13.80% from 18 to 24, 27.20% from 25 to 44, 20.50% from 45 to 64, and 10.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 123.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 132.10 males. The median income for a household in the county is $28,033, and the median income for a family is $31,122. Males have a median income of $25,888 versus $18,113 for females.
