Pasay CityPasay City is one of the cities and municipalities that comprise Metro Manila in the Philippines. It is bordered on the north by the country's capital, Manila, to the northeast by Makati City, to the east by Taguig, and Paraaque City to the south. Density—18,679 per km². Area: 19.00 km² Class: 1st class; urban Pasay City was one of the original four cities of Metro Manila. Due to its close proximity to Manila, it fast became an urban town during the American Period. Among the many attractions in the city are the CCP Complex, on which are the located the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Folk Arts Theater, and the Philippine World Trade Center. Terminal 2 and the soon to be completed Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as well as the terminal of the Manila Domestic Airport is located in Pasay City. Villamor Airbase is also located here. Pasay City was notorious for being a red-light district in Metro Manila. Through the recent efforts of the city government, this reputation has been minimized somewhat and efforts are in place to develop the city as a reputable tourist destination. History Pasay's name originated from the Spanish Paso hay meaning there is a pass. This referred to the paths cleared among the grass leading to the southern portions from Manila. Pasay became a city on June 21, 1947 and was renamed Rizal City, after Jose Rizal, the country's national hero. In 1949, it was renamed back to Pasay.
