Papineau (Electoral District)

Papineau is the name of a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada. Its population is 103,942. (2001)

Geography

The district includes the neighbourhoods of Villeray and Parc-Extention, and the western part of the neighbourhood of Saint-Michel in the City of Montreal.

History

The electoral district of Papineau was created in 1947 from Hochelaga, Mercier and Saint-Denis. In 1987 the district of PapineauSaint-Michel was created from Papineau and Saint-MichelAhuntsic. In 1996 the district of PapineauSaint-Denis was created from PapineauSaint-Michel and Saint-Denis. In 2004, the name was changed to Papineau. The name comes from a street in Villeray named after Joseph Papineau. List of Members:
