languages which were spoken in the
Balkans

ancient times

Thracian language
Illyrian language
Paionian language
Ancient Macedonian language
The only remnant of them is
Albanian
, but it is still disputed which language was its ancestor. Many
substratum
words of Paleo-Balkan origin are also found in
Romanian
, and some in
South Slavic
and
Greek
.
