oxbridge (dict)

Oxbridge

"Oxbridge" is a portmanteau name for the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the two oldest universities in the United Kingdom. There is no single university or university town called Oxbridge, and so it is safer to refer to both universities as Oxford and Cambridge separately. See Oxbridge rivalry and Doxbridge.
