Orinda, CaliforniaOrinda is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 17,599. See also Miramonte High School. Geography is located at 37°52'56" North, 122°10'30" West (37.882358, -122.175123). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 32.7 km² (12.6 mi²). 32.6 km² (12.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.32% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 17,599 people, 6,596 households, and 5,243 families residing in the city. The population density is 539.7/km² (1,398.2/mi²). There are 6,744 housing units at an average density of 206.8/km² (535.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 86.63% White, 0.47% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 9.24% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.64% from other races, and 2.84% from two or more races. 3.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,596 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.3% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.5% are non-families. 16.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 2.98. In the city the population is spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 3.2% from 18 to 24, 20.5% from 25 to 44, 32.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.8 males. The median income for a household in the city is $117,637, and the median income for a family is $132,531. Males have a median income of $0 versus $65,432 for females. The per capita income for the city is $65,428. 1.9% of the population and 1.3% of families are below the poverty line.
