Operation Apollo
Operation Apollo
was an operation of the
Canadian Navy
in support of the
United States
in its
military operations
in
Afghanistan
. The operation took place from
October 2001
to
October 2003
. The naval force consists of the
Halifax-class frigates
Montral
and
Winnipeg
stationed in the
Arabian Sea
. Two ships—the
frigate
HMCS
Fredericton
and the
destroyer
Iroquois
— will replace the ships in the Arabian Sea. The departure of the
Iroquois
was delayed when its
H-3 Sea King
helicopter
lost power and crashed into the deck. The
Halifax
,
Charlottetown
,
Preserver
,
Vancouver
,
Ottawa
,
Toronto
,
St. John's
and
Protecteur
have previously completed tours of duty in the operation.
