Ontario Provincial Highway 69

Highway 69 is a major north-south highway in Central and Northern Ontario, linking Sudbury with Highway 400 in Parry Sound. The current highway begins at the Musquash River Bridge south of MacTier and ends at Highway 17 junction in Sudbury with a total length at 206 km (128 miles). The length of the highway has slowly been decreasing over recent years as Highway 400 is extended northward, and eventually will completely take over Highway 69, most likely around 2020. Two segments are (currently) multiplexed with 400:
  • The southernmost segment between the Musquash River and Highway 400 Exit 189 (a temporary multiplex as that short section (the Wahta Gap) is currently being upgraded to a freeway, which would cut 10 km from the length of 69 once completed as the multiplex will be removed)
  • Between Exit 213 and the end of the freeway in Parry Sound (that may or may not remain once the Wahta Gap is complete, as about 30 km of 2-lane highway between Exits 189 and 213 on the old alignment would have to be renumbered or decomissioned - and there is no county-level municipality for part of the route)
The highway is part of the Trans-Canada Highway for most of its length, except for the section between Exits 189 and 213 that was bypassed by Highway 400 but remains signed as 69.
