Oldham County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 46,178. Its county seat is La Grange ⁶.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 509 km² (197 mi²). 490 km² (189 mi²) of it is land and 19 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.74% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 46,178 people, 14,856 households, and 12,196 families residing in the county. The population density is 94/km² (244/mi²). There are 15,541 housing units at an average density of 32/km² (82/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.62% White, 4.21% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.55% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. 1.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 14,856 households out of which 44.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.50% are married couples living together, 7.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.90% are non-families. 14.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.85 and the average family size is 3.17. In the county the population is spread out with 27.40% under the age of 18, 6.90% from 18 to 24, 33.10% from 25 to 44, 25.60% from 45 to 64, and 7.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 114.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 117.90 males. The median income for a household in the county is $63,229, and the median income for a family is $70,495. Males have a median income of $46,962 versus $28,985 for females. The per capita income for the county is $25,374. 4.10% of the population and 2.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.50% of those under the age of 18 and 6.00% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
