Old Bethpage, New YorkOld Bethpage is a census-designated place located in Nassau County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 5,400. Old Bethpage is a hamlet contained within the Town of Oyster Bay. The Plainview-Old Bethpage school district is formed from it and the neighboring hamlet of Plainview. History Before 1936 Old Bethpage was known simply as Bethpage, until a larger adjacent hamlet changed its name from Central Park to Bethpage. Geography Old Bethpage is located at 40°45'43" North, 73°27'16" West (40.761819, -73.454544). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.7 km² (4.1 mi²). 10.7 km² (4.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,400 people, 1,834 households, and 1,557 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 506.1/km² (1,311.4/mi²). There are 1,843 housing units at an average density of 172.7/km² (447.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.57% White, 1.19% African American, 0.04% Native American, 2.94% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 1.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,834 households out of which 38.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.6% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.1% are non-families. 13.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.88 and the average family size is 3.16. In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.5 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $89,771, and the median income for a family is $100,325. Males have a median income of $67,917 versus $40,353 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $34,666. 4.3% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line.
