Norwegian Wood (Novel)Norwegian Wood (ノルウェーの森 Noruei no mori) is a Japanese novel written in 1987 by Haruki Murakami. This novel, a nostalgic story of loss and sexual coming-of-age, is the novel with which Murakami gained national recognition in Japan. Norwegian Wood sold millions of copies among Japanese youth, making Murakami something of a superstar in his native country (to his dismay. ) The original title, Noruei no mori is a pun or an intentional mistranslation of the title of the song Norwegian Wood by John Lennon; noruei no mori means "Norwegian wood", but mori is the wood meaning "forest", not the material wood you get by chopping a tree.
