North Miami, FloridaNorth Miami is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 59,880. The city sits on Biscayne Bay, and hosts the Biscayne Bay campus of Florida International University. It is also home to the Oleta River State Park, which is the state's largest urban park. Geography North Miami is located at 25°53'42" North, 80°11'9" West (25.895022, -80.185747). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.9 km² (10.0 mi²). 21.9 km² (8.5 mi²) of it is land and 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 15.32% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 59,880 people, 20,541 households, and 13,577 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,732.8/km² (7,080.0/mi²). There are 22,281 housing units at an average density of 1,016.9/km² (2,634.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 34.81% White, 54.89% African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.92% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 3.16% from other races, and 4.85% from two or more races. 23.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 20,541 households out of which 37.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.0% are married couples living together, 20.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% are non-families. 26.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.85 and the average family size is 3.51. In the city the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.0 males. The median income for a household in the city is $29,778, and the median income for a family is $31,760. Males have a median income of $25,388 versus $20,712 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,581. 23.9% of the population and 20.7% of families are below the poverty line.
