Noble Township, Michigan

Noble Township is a township located in Branch County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 518. There are no incorporated municipalities in the primarily agricultural township. There are no named settlements or unincorporated communities.

Geography

There are a series of small lakes in the east side of the township that drain into the Fawn River, which crosses the southeast corner. The Prairie River drains a portion on the north side. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 55.2 km² (21.3 mi²). 54.3 km² (21.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.60% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 518 people, 170 households, and 146 families residing in the township. The population density is 9.5/km² (24.7/mi²). There are 185 housing units at an average density of 3.4/km² (8.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 96.72% White, 0.00% African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.54% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. 2.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 170 households out of which 38.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.6% are married couples living together, 7.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.1% are non-families. 11.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.05 and the average family size is 3.30. In the township the population is spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.9 males. The median income for a household in the township is $40,625, and the median income for a family is $42,917. Males have a median income of $31,094 versus $20,179 for females. The per capita income for the township is $14,885. 15.8% of the population and 11.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 26.4% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
