Ngati Porou

The Ngati Porou iwi is among the top ten tribes of New Zealand by population. It is based in the Gisborne area. They fought against the Hau Hau in the East Cape War of 1865-1868. Well-known current or former members or affiliates of the tribe include Sir Apirana Ngata, John Tamihere, and Georgina Beyer.
