Newell's Old Boys

Club Atltico Newell's Old Boys is a popular football team from Argentina, founded in 1903. Its home is in the neighborhood of Parque Independencia, in Rosario, and it plays at the Estadio "Coloso". The club's nickname is Los Dragones (The Dragons) or Los Leprosos (The Lepers). It was named by ex-pupils of the English High School of Rosario, in homage to its director and football coach, English immigrant Isaac Newell. Newell's Old Boys has an historic rivalry with Rosario Central, the other club in Rosario. Their colors are black and red, due to the British and German flags (countries of Isaac Newell and his wife). Newell's Old Boys have won the Argentine Championship five times (Metropolitano 1974, 1987/88, 1990/91, Clausura 1992 and Apertura 2004), the Argentine Liguilla (1992), the Argentine Cup (1939, 1941, 1972, 1999) and was the Sub-Champion of the Copa Libertadores de America twice (1988 and 1992). Newell's Old Boys is one of the clubs that has given the most players to the Argentina national team, and exported the most players, mostly to Italy and Spain, among them Gabriel Batistuta, Balbo, Valdano, Sensini, Samuel, Pochetino, Pontoni, Martino, Perucca and several more. Its president and manager is Eduardo J. Lpez and its coach is Amrico Rubn Gallego. The club's current debt is roughly 26.000.000 pesos.
