New Fairfield, ConnecticutNew Fairfield is a town located in Fairfield County, Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 13,953. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 64.9 km² (25.1 mi²). 53.0 km² (20.5 mi²) of it is land and 11.9 km² (4.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 18.32% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 13,953 people, 4,638 households, and 3,905 families residing in the town. The population density is 263.3/km² (681.9/mi²). There are 5,148 housing units at an average density of 97.1/km² (251.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.83% White, 0.39% African American, 0.04% Native American, 1.27% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.52% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. 2.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,638 households out of which 44.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.3% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.8% are non-families. 12.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.01 and the average family size is 3.30. In the town the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.7 males. The median income for a household in the town is $84,375, and the median income for a family is $92,576. Males have a median income of $65,978 versus $40,284 for females. The per capita income for the town is $34,928. 1.7% of the population and 1.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.5% of those under the age of 18 and 4.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. There are four lakes in New Fairfield.
