New Brockton is a town located in Coffee County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 1,250.

Geography

New Brockton is located at 31°22'52" North, 85°55'28" West (31.381138, -85.924339). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 20.7 km² (8.0 mi²). 20.7 km² (8.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.12% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,250 people, 465 households, and 336 families residing in the town. The population density is 60.4/km² (156.5/mi²). There are 555 housing units at an average density of 26.8/km² (69.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 67.36% White, 26.64% Black or African American, 2.80% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 2.96% from two or more races. 0.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 465 households out of which 29.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% are married couples living together, 16.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.7% are non-families. 26.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.95. In the town the population is spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $24,032, and the median income for a family is $26,914. Males have a median income of $26,711 versus $20,417 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,018. 21.8% of the population and 17.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 34.6% of those under the age of 18 and 16.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
