Nespelem is a town located in Okanogan County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 212.

History

Nespelem was officially incorporated on April 15, 1935.

Geography

  is located at 48°9'59" North, 118°58'32" West (48.166278, -118.975685). 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 212 people, 71 households, and 48 families residing in the town. The population density is 430.8/km² (1,130.9/mi²). There are 84 housing units at an average density of 170.7/km² (448.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 13.68% White, 0.00% African American, 82.08% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.47% Pacific Islander, 1.42% from other races, and 1.89% from two or more races. 3.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 71 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.2% are married couples living together, 22.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.99 and the average family size is 3.57. In the town the population is spread out with 32.5% under the age of 18, 13.2% from 18 to 24, 17.5% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 105.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 120.0 males. The median income for a household in the town is $30,000, and the median income for a family is $27,500. Males have a median income of $43,250 versus $27,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,836. 16.9% of the population and 15.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 28.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
