National Liberal And Conservative Party

The National Liberal and Conservative Party was the name adopted by the Canadian Conservatives in 1920 after the end of the Unionist government of Robert Borden. The Tories under Arthur Meighen adopted the name in hopes of making permanent the Unionist coalition of Conservatives and pro-conscription Liberals. Very few Liberals stayed with the party and the name was abandoned following the 1921 election. See also:
