National Basketball Development League

The National Basketball Development League is the NBA's officially sponsored and operated developmental basketball organization. The NBDL, more commonly known as the "D-League", currently consists of six teams, all in the southeastern United States. In March 2004, NBA commissioner David Stern announced a plan to expand the NBDL to fifteen teams and develop it into a true minor league farm system. The league began play in 2001-2002 season. There will be four expansion teams for the 2005-2006 season. They will be in Albuquerque, NM, Austin, Texas, Tulsa, OK, and Fort Worth, TX. 2004-05 NBDL Teams: Defunct Teams Champions
