Nanyang Girls' High SchoolNanyang Girls' High School is a premier all-girls four year secondary school in Singapore that upholds traditional Chinese values. It participates in the Integrated Programme with Hwa Chong Institution (formed by the merger of Hwa Chong Junior College and The Chinese High School, under the Hwa Chong Affliate Programme. Famous alumni include the former first lady of Singapore, Mrs Ong Teng Cheong. Trends NYGH girls have often been described as being "cheena" meaning they behave in a very Chinese fashion, and are also good at the language. This misconception probably derived from the school's rich Chinese tradition and background. On the contrary, the girls of NYGH are quite westernised. Furthermore, they have an affinity with pink fashion, as well as a symbolic relationship with The Chinese High School (now Hwa Chong Institution), due to the close proximity of the two schools (almost opposite each other). Furthermore, they have been involved in many activities together, e.g. Combined Sports Meet every year as well as in planning certain activities. As such, the two schools are inevitably linked in romance as well. Although the overhead bridge linking the two schools is nothing out of the ordinary, for both genders alike who study inside a same-sex environment, it is often the subject of scenes in the morning where both schools try to mantain their own lane by keeping to the right, and avoiding any embarrasment. Sometimes, boys can be caught glancing at girls while walking on the overhead bridge, although the natural consensus is to "stop your eyes from wandering".
