Nagaoka

  • Nagaoka was also the name of a city in the Kansai area of Japan. It was briefly established as the capital by Emperor Kammu in 784, but it was abandoned after only ten years and the capital shifted to what became modern Kyoto city. Today, the area of Nagaoka is incorporated as Nagaokakyo city in the western part of Kyoto prefecture.
