Mushroom WorldThe Mushroom World is a fictional setting in the Super Mario Bros. video game series and other series by Nintendo. Though no explicit geography has been mapped out in relation to other locations, it is comprised of all settings in the main Super Mario Bros. games: - Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 2 (Japanese version, aka The Lost Levels) - Locations in and around the Mushroom Kingdom, referred to as "worlds." These lands are not mapped. Each world has its own castle, with a Mushroom Retainer in its stead. The exception is the last world, ruled by Bowser.
- Super Mario Bros. 3 Worlds 1-8 have their own specific rulers and are mapped out, but have no point of reference to the original games.
- Super Mario 64 - Takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom
- - Takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom and the Beanbean Kingdom.
- Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario partially take place in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Lands apart from the Mushroom Kingdom: - Sarasaland - Setting of Super Mario Land
- Mario Land - Setting of Super Mario Land 2.
- Super Mario World and - Takes place on Dinosaur Island, a continent far from the Mushroom Kingdom.
- Mario Sunshine - Takes place on Isle Delfino, another land far from the Mushroom Kingdom.
- Land of Sub-Con - Setting of Super Mario Bros 2 (US version).
- Star Road takes place high above the clouds, seen in Super Mario World and Super Mario RPG.
- Rainbow Road takes place in the Mario Kart series.
- Jewelry Land - Setting of Yoshi's Safari
- Waffle Kingdom - referenced in Paper Mario 2
- Kitchen Island - seen in Wario Land
- Beanbean Kingdom - setting of . It is indicated in the game that it is separate from the Mushroom Kingdom.
Other settings: As Mario associates with other Nintendo characters who have their own settings, the lands they inhabit can be inferred to exist in the same world as Mario. - Donkey Kong Country - Setting of Donkey Kong Country 1-3 and Donkey Kong 64
- Wario - Wario resides in the country seen in Wario Ware Inc. Wario encounters other lands in Wario Land 1-2 and Wario World.
- Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf - Settings are often based off of those in and around the Mushroom Kingdom, such as Bowser's Castle.
- Mario Party - Each game has its own set of worlds.
Unknown settings - Older games generally consist of no physical location, and therefore cannot be mapped. - Mario Bros.
- Wrecking Crew
- Donkey Kong
- Donkey Kong Jr. and Donkey Kong Jr. Math
- Donkey Kong 3
Non-canon Settings - Earth - Largely due to fanon, as well as the Mario movie and television series, Mario is believed to come from Brooklyn. This is not officially mentioned in any game, and seems to be disproven in , though many fans think it can still work with a little imagination. Earth is also the setting of Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine, both unofficial games.
- Super Smash Bros and Super Smash Bros. Melee - Various Nintendo characters are brought to life by a giant hand in order to fight one another. These characters are dolls made to represent their respective characters.
#There is no solid evidence for Hyrule being part of the same world, despite some cameo appearances such as the Warp Whistle in Super Mario Bros. 3. Goombas appear in , which takes place in a separate dream world.
