Murphy's War

Murphy's War is a 1971 film starring Peter O'Toole as Murphy. It was directed by Peter Yates.

It is the closing days of World War II and Murphy is the sole survivor of the crew of a merchant ship that has been sunk by a German U-Boat which machine gunned the survivors in the water. He makes it to shore (to a colonial missionary settlement on the Orinoco in Venezuela). He sets about plotting his revenge, to sink the U-boat by any means possible using improvised weaponry including an old sea plane. Interesting, colorful film about one man's eccentric obsession.
