Mr. George Banks

Mr. George Banks is a character from the classic book and film, Mary Poppins. In the movie, he is portrayed as a man who is work-minded, cold-hearted, and hateful. He works at the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank in London, England, and he lives on #17 Cherry Tree Lane with his wife, Winifred, and his two children, Jane and Michael, in the movie. He calls Winifred only by her name (to make the movie more Edwardian-looking), hates her cause (he presumably hated the idea of women voting, as did most men in the Edwardian era), and seemed to hate fun and laughter. However, that said, it could be argued that he is actually the true protaganist of the story. The bulk of the dramatic tension in the film involves his journey from disconnected family autocrat to fully engaged family man. He was played by David Tomlinson.
