Mount Victoria, Wellington Mount Victoria is a prominent hill (height 196 metres) to the east of the centre of Wellington, New Zealand. to the south of it is a spur, Mount Alfred, and the two are linked by a ridge. The suburb of Mount Victoria is a mixture of residential and commercial activity on the western flank of the ridge above the southern end of the Wellington Central Business District. Adjoining suburbs, almost entirely residential, are Oriental Bay, Roseneath, and Hataitai. Notable features of the suburb include Wellington College, Wellington East Girls' College, and a synagogue, lies on its western flank, while the Basin Reserve sports stadium and National War Memorial lie at the hill's foot. Government House, the home of New Zealand's Governor-General lies on the slopes of Mount Victoria to the south of the Basin Reserve, between Mount Victoria and Vogeltown suburbs. Behind it is Wellington Hospital. A road tunnel, the Mount Victoria Tunnel, runs beneath the ridge, connecting the central city with Wellington International Airport, Evans Bay, and the Miramar Peninsula. External links
