Morgan Boulevard (Washington Metro)

Morgan Boulevard is a Washington Metro station in Prince George's County, Maryland on the Blue Line; it began service on December 18, 2004. The station is less than a mile from FedEx Field, the stadium of the Washington Redskins. The Morgan Boulevard Station gained approval from Congress in 1999. Construction began in 2001, and the total cost of building this and her sister station Largo Town Center was over $450 million. The platform at this station is wider than others because of the estimated large volumes of passengers serving it before and after football games. For commuters, there is a daycare at the station. Originally, the station was to be named Summerfield, owing to the adjacent Summerfield Boulevard; however, the Prince George's County Board changed the name of the street to Morgan Boulevard in memory of Garrett Morgan, the African-American inventor of the stop-go traffic light. As a result, Metro changed the name of the station to match the new street name. This is the only station not served by Metrobus. The Prince George's County bus system, called simply The Bus, serves this station.
