Communities Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 83.1 km² (32.1 mi²). 82.0 km² (31.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.28% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,121 people, 484 households, and 327 families residing in the township. The population density is 13.7/km² (35.4/mi²). There are 862 housing units at an average density of 10.5/km² (27.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.86% White, 0.00% African American, 0.62% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 0.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 484 households out of which 24.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% are married couples living together, 6.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.75. In the township the population is spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 23.1% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
