Milford, Ohio

Milford is a city of southwestern Ohio located in Clermont and Hamilton counties along the Little Miami River. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,284. The Little Miami Bike Trail, which runs to Spring Valley, Ohio, begins here.

Geography

Milford is located at 39°10'30" North, 84°17'4" West (39.174883, -84.284383). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.9 km² (3.8 mi²). 9.7 km² (3.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.83% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,284 people, 2,945 households, and 1,534 families residing in the city. The population density is 645.3/km² (1,672.1/mi²). There are 3,112 housing units at an average density of 319.6/km² (828.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.08% White, 3.33% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,945 households out of which 24.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.5% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 47.9% are non-families. 43.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.09 and the average family size is 2.92. In the city the population is spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 81.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $31,923, and the median income for a family is $51,919. Males have a median income of $36,538 versus $25,873 for females. The per capita income for the city is $22,529. 7.8% of the population and 4.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.6% of those under the age of 18 and 11.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
